Delaware inmates avoid deductions for prison costs

Delaware’s Department of Correction can no longer deduct incarceration costs from inmate accounts. It still deposits earnings and other income or benefits, including workers’ compensation and Social Security, into accounts payable upon release. Remaining deductions follow two priority levels. First come support payments for dependents receiving public assistance during incarceration or covered by court-ordered support, plus court-ordered restitution. Second come court costs, fines, and other court-ordered charges.
