New school safety reviews cover lead hazards

Delaware’s Department of Education must create a school-building review tool through regulations by March 1, 2027. The tool must include detailed checks and a standard for deciding whether schools are in good repair. It cannot require major building upgrades beyond the standards used when a school was designed and built. School maintenance standards now cover indoor and outdoor hazardous materials, including lead-based paint and lead-based paint hazards.
