Delaware African American Heritage and Culture Commission members can get paid back for actual, necessary expenses from official duties. Members receive no compensation for their service. The law sets no reimbursement amount or payment schedule.
The law creates the Delaware African American Heritage and Culture Commission under the Secretary of State. It preserves and shares Delaware’s African American history, including hidden, overlooked, and suppressed stories. It teaches residents and visitors, develops historians, and supports groups with similar goals. The commission can form committees that include nonmembers, and state leaders can assign it more duties. It selects a Chair and Vice Chair; members appointed because of their positions serve at their appointing authority’s pleasure. Other members serve 3-year terms, may serve two additional terms, and can stay until replacements are appointed.
