Schools ban Red Dye 40 in meals

Beginning July 1, 2026, Delaware public and charter schools cannot sell or serve foods or drinks with Red Dye 40 (CAS 25956-17-6). This covers breakfast, lunch, and other items the school sells to students. The rule applies on campus from midnight before the school day until 30 minutes after it ends. The Department of Education may issue rules to enforce the ban. If you have a K-12 student in Delaware, their school must follow this.
