More career training grants for schools

Beginning July 1, 2025, the Department of Education provides grants to school districts, charter schools, and Florida College System institutions. Grants help create or expand career programs leading to a certification on the state funding list. Programs must serve secondary students; postsecondary programs must also serve secondary students. Grants can pay for equipment, supplies, personnel, and student services, but not recurring instruction or indirect costs. Awards respond to workforce needs, consider geographic spread, and prioritize high-performing, high-demand programs that make strong use of workforce funds.

More tuition guarantees, with student rules

Beginning July 1, 2025, each school district and Florida College System institution must offer guarantees for at least three programs. By July 1, 2026, each must add at least three more programs and notify the State Board of Education. Students enrolled in a covered program count as enrolled in the guarantee program, but tuition reimbursement can depend on attendance, performance, career events, work experience, job searches, and a career plan. Internship, work-study, and job-search requirements cannot exceed the work-search requirements in state law. By November 1 each year, the Department of Education reports program results and reimbursement criteria to state leaders.
