Leon County caps inmate medical care payments

The law caps payments for care provided to inmates housed in Leon County detention centers. Medical providers without county contracts face a cap of 110% of the Medicare allowable rate. The cap is 125% for providers reporting a negative operating margin for the previous year through hospital-audited financial data submitted to Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration. Emergency medical transport providers without county contracts also face a 110% cap, including land, water, and air ambulance services. Medical charges at hospitals operated by Leon County are exempt. These rules took effect when the act became law.
