Added costs for drivers leaving crash scenes

Beginning October 1, 2025, Florida adds financial penalties for leaving crashes involving only vehicle or property damage. Courts may order convicted drivers to pay damaged property owners, but payment is not automatic. The driver must have caused or contributed to the crash. Payments cover only damage caused by that driver's vehicle. The law also adds $5 to each fine under this crash-stop law for the Emergency Medical Services Trust Fund.
