Grants support public boating access and safety

Beginning July 1, 2025, Florida's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission must run competitive boating grant programs. Eligible projects include building and maintaining publicly owned parking for boat-hauling vehicles and trailers, plus boat ramps, piers, and docks. Grants also support boater education, technology to help avoid manatees, and economic development that promotes boating in Florida. Funding comes from money transferred under section 206.606(1)(d); the law states no dollar amount or guaranteed awards. The commission can adopt rules to carry out the programs.

Lower lease fees for clean marine businesses

Beginning July 1, 2025, Clean Marine Manufacturers and Clean Marine Retailers join Clean Marinas and Clean Boatyards in qualifying for lease savings. Eligible facilities get 10% off annual fees for leasing state-owned underwater land. They must keep their Clean Marina Program designation, follow lease terms, and keep the same use during the lease term. Extended-term lease surcharges are also waived when facilities provide public access on a first-come, first-served basis. Facilities with overdue lease fees or unmet requirements lose savings until overdue fees are paid and compliance is restored.
