Paid health premiums for injured firefighters

Beginning July 1, 2025, full-time firefighters qualify for employer-paid health premiums after a catastrophic injury during official training. The injury must occur on or after January 1, 1995, and cause total and permanent disability. Employers pay the entire basic health-plan premium for the firefighter, spouse, and eligible dependent children, but not supplemental benefits. Children qualify until adulthood, with continued coverage through the year they turn 25 if they remain dependent, including as full- or part-time students. If the firefighter dies, coverage continues for the surviving spouse until remarriage and for children under the same limits.
