Miles family receives $200,000 with capped fees

The South Broward Hospital District must pay Eric Miles, Jr., and Jennifer Miles $200,000 as E.E.M.'s copersonal representatives. Effective upon becoming law, the act requires this one-time payment from district funds not already committed. It completes a $500,000 settlement reached in May 2024, including $300,000 already paid. Lawyer fees on this award cannot exceed 25%, or $50,000. That leaves at least $150,000 before other costs or deductions.

Miles family faces limits on compensation

The law makes the district's prior payment plus this award the only compensation for claims from the described incident. This limit covers present and future injury and damage claims involving E.E.M., Eric Miles, Jr., and Jennifer Miles.
