Medical plans for farm members

Starting July 1, 2025, qualifying Florida farm nonprofits can offer medical benefit plans to their members. The organization must be based in Florida, have federal tax-exempt status, and have existed before 1945. It must promote rural communities and Florida farmers, serve members beyond medical plans, collect yearly dues, and have members living in most Florida counties. These plans are not health insurance or health maintenance organization contracts, and they do not have the protections that apply under Florida insurance law. The organization cannot market or sell plans through agents licensed by the state. It must get an independent financial audit each year and provide it on request or post it online. Every application and marketing item must include a clear, written notice in contrasting color and at least 12-point type explaining the lack of insurance protections.
