Higher fines for demolishing Florida historic buildings

Beginning July 1, 2025, Florida code enforcement boards and special magistrates can impose historic-demolition fines above the usual limits. This applies to buildings or structures individually listed in the National Register of Historic Places or contributing to a listed district. Competent substantial evidence must show the demolition was knowing and willful and either lacked a permit or resulted from a natural disaster. The fine cannot exceed 20% of the property's fair or just market value before demolition, as determined by the property appraiser.
