Housing aid applicants keep personal records private

Beginning October 1, 2025, Florida protects specified records of applicants and participants in federal, state, or local housing aid programs. Medical histories and health or property insurance information they provide are confidential and exempt from public disclosure. Property photos and identifying details are also protected for disaster recovery housing aid tied to a presidentially declared disaster. These protections cover records held by Florida’s Department of Commerce, Florida Housing Finance Corporation, counties, cities, and local housing finance agencies. The law removes the scheduled October 2, 2025 repeal, keeping the protections in place. Government entities and their agents can access the records for housing program audits. Records can also be used in administrative or court proceedings, but remain confidential unless a court orders otherwise.
