Officials keep enforcement authority on farms
State and federal officials can still carry out their official duties. They may enforce laws and take other official actions even if an owner claims sole control over animal care.
Livestock owners decide on-farm animal care
The law says the farmer or owner of livestock or poultry decides all on-farm animal health care and production practices. You can consult a veterinarian or any other professional, but it is your choice. You do not have to get approval before treating animals or changing practices.
Equine farms not covered by rule
If you own horses or run an equine business, this rule does not apply to you. The owner-control rule does not cover equine owners or equine operations.
