Insurers must cover collaborative mental health care

Kentucky health plans that cover mental health treatment must pay for psychiatric collaborative care services. This applies to plans issued, delivered, or renewed on or after January 1, 2027. Services billed under CPT codes 99492, 99493, 99494, and other codes used for this model count. Insurers can deny payment only if the medical-necessity review follows federal mental health parity rules and Kentucky utilization review law. The state keeps an updated list of billing codes for this care. If federal rules treat this as beyond essential health benefits, the state applies for a federal waiver within 180 days.
