2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.
The law lets veterans with traumatic brain injury or PTSD get hyperbaric oxygen therapy if three things happen. Your treating provider must confirm your diagnosis. Your provider must write a prescription. You must sign the required written informed consent. The law says your treating provider can be a doctor, advanced practice nurse, or physician assistant. PTSD must be diagnosed using the latest DSM rules. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy means breathing 100% oxygen in a pressurized chamber.
Before treatment, you or your legal guardian must sign a written informed consent. The consent must explain approved treatments for your condition. It must describe the best, worst, and most likely outcomes, including new or worse symptoms and a risk that treatment may hasten death. It must say your health plan and provider do not have to pay for hyperbaric oxygen therapy care unless required by law or contract. It must say you will pay all costs related to this therapy. Your treating provider and a witness must attest to the consent.
