Fewer drug reporting duties for veterinarians

Kentucky government agencies cannot require Kentucky-licensed veterinarians to report controlled drugs they prescribe, give, or dispense to animals. This limit covers the Controlled Substances Prescribing Council and the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. The Kentucky Board of Veterinary Examiners can still require reports.

Patients’ conviction records enter drug monitoring

Kentucky’s courts office must send qualifying conviction records to the health cabinet for its electronic drug-monitoring system. Since July 1, 2018, reporting covers the prior five calendar years of felony or Class A misdemeanor drug-law convictions. Before July 1, 2024, the office must also send available disqualifying felony records from the previous five years. Beginning July 1, 2024, it must send disqualifying felony records on an ongoing basis. Patient-name searches show qualifying drug convictions and disqualifying felony convictions within the required five-year periods.
