Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Scholarship licensing and work requirements

If you take this scholarship, you sign a contract. You must earn a Kentucky engineer or land surveyor license within six years of graduation. You must work in Kentucky one year for each academic year you got the scholarship. If you do not meet these terms, the board can cancel the contract and demand full repayment. You also owe attorney’s fees and compound interest at 8% a year from the date the money was paid.

Scholarships for Kentucky engineers and surveyors

The state runs a scholarship fund for Kentucky residents studying engineering or land surveying. The board takes applications, picks recipients and award amounts, and pays under a written contract. Money in the fund rolls over each year. Funding comes from fines the board collects and any money the board adds from its budget. The board may keep reasonable costs to run the program, and its choices are final.

Engineer and surveyor renewals add $5

Licensed engineers and land surveyors pay an extra $5 each time they renew a license. The board sends that $5 to the scholarship fund. Your total added cost equals $5 times how many renewals you file.
