More flexible supervision for PAs

Supervision means the doctor oversees and takes responsibility for the PA’s care. Each team must match tasks to the PA’s training, define how to reach the doctor, and review performance. The doctor does not have to be on site when the PA treats patients. The law repeals old location limits, so PAs can give care in more places with approved supervision. Teams must keep clear supervision plans under Board rules.

Who qualifies to be a PA in Kentucky

The law defines who counts as a physician assistant in Kentucky. You qualify by graduating from an accredited PA program and passing the national PA exam. You also qualify if you held a current Kentucky PA certificate before July 15, 2002. The Board uses these rules when granting licenses.
