New appointment rules for Kentucky library trustees
For covered Kentucky county library boards, trustees must live in the county and commit to providing library services. Boards normally recommend two candidates to the county judge/executive, who selects one within 30 days with fiscal court approval. A fiscal court can adopt an alternative process by resolution, allowing the board to recommend one person. After rejecting that person, the judge/executive can appoint someone else within 30 days, with fiscal court approval. Boards must notify the Department for Libraries and Archives within 14 days of an appointment.
