Schools can buy Kentucky-grown food
Local school boards and districts in USDA Child Nutrition Programs can buy Kentucky-grown farm products. Purchases must follow federal law. These buys do not have to follow Kentucky’s general procurement and bidding laws (KRS 45A.345–45A.460 and KRS 424.260). "Kentucky-grown" uses the state’s standard definition. All other state and federal rules still apply.
Takes effect immediately statewide
The law declares an emergency. It takes effect as soon as it is signed or otherwise becomes law. Schools and other covered entities can use these new purchasing rules right away.
