Ipswich board appoints manager, 3-year terms

The Ipswich select board appoints the town manager. The manager must be specially fitted by education, training, and experience. Politics cannot be part of the hiring decision. Each term is three years, and the board may reappoint for more three-year terms if in the town’s best interest. This act takes effect upon its passage.

Oath and bond for town manager

Before starting work, the town manager must take an oath to perform duties faithfully and impartially. The chair of the select board, the town clerk, or a justice of the peace may give the oath. The manager must also post a bond in favor of the town for faithful performance. The select board sets or approves the bond amount and the sureties.
