Anne Arundel Sheriff can appoint three majors

Beginning October 1, 2026, the Sheriff of Anne Arundel County can appoint up to three majors. These majors serve at the Sheriff’s pleasure. The Anne Arundel County Council sets their pay. The Sheriff continues to appoint deputies and a chief deputy. This law applies only in Anne Arundel County.
