Baltimore County school board nominating panel expands

Beginning October 1, 2026, the Baltimore County School Board Nominating Commission grows from 19 to 21 members. Eight members are appointed by the Governor, in consultation with the County Executive, with one from each legislative district in the county. The County Executive also appoints one at large. New appointing groups include the Greater Baltimore Chamber of Commerce, AFSCME Local 3 (Council 434), and the Citizens Advisory Council for Gifted and Talented Education. Other named groups keep one seat each, such as the teachers’ association, PTA council, Towson University, the League of Women Voters, the NAACP, student councils, special education and gifted advisory councils, and school employee groups.

Staggered end dates for commission seats

Beginning October 1, 2026, the law sets common end dates for specific commission seats. Terms end on September 30, 2028 for the NAACP branch, Education Support Personnel, Teachers Association, Towson University, League of Women Voters, Student Councils, and Governor appointees for districts 6, 8, 11, and 43. Terms end on September 30, 2030 for AFSCME Local 3, the Gifted and Talented Citizens Advisory Council, the Greater Baltimore Chamber, the PTA Council, the Special Education Citizens’ Advisory Committee, the Council of Administrative and Supervisory Employees, the County Executive’s at‑large seat, and Governor appointees for districts 7, 10, 42, and 44. The first Greater Baltimore Chamber appointee serves the remainder of the former Baltimore County Chamber appointee’s term.
