Maryland IDs and licenses no longer need color photos

Beginning October 1, 2026, Maryland ID cards, noncommercial driver's licenses (Classes A, B, C, and M), and moped permits do not have to use a color photo. A photo is still required and is taken under Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration procedures. The change applies when you get a new card or renew one. Other eligibility rules, fees, and document standards stay the same.
