Military caregiver joins caregiving panel

Beginning October 1, 2026, the Governor appoints one family caregiver of a service-disabled veteran to the Maryland Commission on Caregiving. The new member takes part in meetings and decisions. This expands the voice of military families and caregivers. It does not provide payments or new benefits.

Youth seat for military families added

Beginning October 1, 2026, the Department of Veterans and Military Families appoints one youth to the Maryland Youth Advisory Council. The youth must have an immediate family member who is a service member. This adds a military-family voice to youth policy talks. It does not provide money or new benefits.

All changes start October 1, 2026

The law takes effect on October 1, 2026. Appointments, membership changes, and meeting rules begin on that date unless another date is stated.

Military families gain voice on Veterans Commission

Beginning October 1, 2026, an organization that represents military families can submit names to the Governor for one Commission seat. A seat may be removed if an organization fails to appoint a commissioner for two straight years. A seat may also be removed if an organization does not recommend a representative from itself. These changes expand military family input while holding inactive groups accountable.

New members and rules for state trust board

Beginning October 1, 2026, one House member and one Senate member join the Board as ex officio trustees. A quorum is a majority of voting trustees. Trustees are not paid to serve but can be reimbursed for travel under State rules, as funds allow. These changes affect how the Board is run and do not change household benefits.
