All school systems must join tip line

Beginning July 1, 2027, each local school system must use the state anonymous reporting system. A system may opt out only if it already runs a similar public tip line by that date. Any system that opts out must send written notice to the Center by December 1, 2026.

State center runs school emergency grants

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Maryland Center for School Safety administers the Secure Schools Emergency Response Grant Program. The Center runs day-to-day operations and works with local school systems on applications and awards.

Anonymous school safety tips with privacy

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Maryland Center for School Safety runs a statewide anonymous tip system for school safety concerns. It keeps the reporter’s name private and sends tips to school officials or first responders. The Center sets operating rules and trains school staff to use it. Records and materials tied to the system are not open to the public.
