More partner treatment options in Maryland

Beginning October 1, 2026, Maryland adds bacterial vaginosis to infections covered by expedited partner therapy. Authorized providers can give a diagnosed patient's sexual partner antibiotics without personally examining that partner. Licensed certified midwives can also provide this treatment for chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, or bacterial vaginosis. Licensed pharmacists can fill these prescriptions. Existing prescribing and dispensing limits for advanced practice registered nurses and physician assistants remain unchanged. Maryland's Secretary of Health must adopt rules for this treatment in public and private health care settings.
