Substitute help for reserve child care providers

Beginning July 1, 2026, family child care providers who serve in a military reserve component must name a substitute when they are away for required training or active service. The designated substitute can provide care for up to 45 working days in any 12‑month period during those absences. This keeps your child care business running while you serve. The Department can set the steps to name a substitute and the qualifications a substitute must meet. Keep track of working days in the last 12 months to stay within the 45‑day cap.
