Beginning October 1, 2026, the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners may not punish a licensee only for talking about or recommending cannabis or CBD for an animal’s therapy or health. This protection applies only when the case is based solely on that talk or recommendation. Cannabis here means products with more than 0.3% delta‑9 THC and does not include hemp. All other discipline rules still apply, such as for fraud, drug or controlled‑substance crimes, gross negligence, or animal cruelty.
