State task force on crypto and blockchain

Beginning July 1, 2026, Maryland creates a task force to study crypto and blockchain. It includes lawmakers, key state finance, commerce, IT, labor, and securities officials, plus industry and academic members. The Office of Financial Regulation provides staff. Members are unpaid but can get travel expense reimbursement. The group studies benefits, risks (including privacy), government and business uses, and impacts on state revenue and energy use. It makes recommendations and reports by October 1, 2027, to the Governor and the General Assembly. The task force ends June 30, 2028.
