Maryland teachers can deduct classroom supplies

Starting with the 2026 tax year, eligible Maryland teachers can subtract up to $250 for unreimbursed classroom supplies. You must be a full-time classroom teacher for an academic year that ends during the tax year. Eligible roles include K–12 classroom teachers in Maryland schools; pre‑K classroom teachers in publicly funded programs at eligible public providers; and lead or consulting pre‑K teachers in publicly funded programs at eligible private providers. Supplies must be used by students in class or by you to prepare for or during teaching. You cannot claim costs already subtracted from federal income under IRC §62 (the federal educator expense).
