Student seats on county library boards

Beginning July 1, 2026, county library boards may add a student member. The student must be a junior or senior. They must attend a public or nonpublic high school in the county, or be in a county home instruction program. The student must be of good character and, if in school, in good standing. Boards set how selection works and choose the student in the student’s sophomore or junior year. The term is one year. If filling a vacancy, the student serves only the time left. If still eligible, they may be picked later for a full term. The student may vote on all policy matters. A board may also let the student vote on other, nonpolicy items. Only appointed members can be chair or other officers, so the student cannot hold those offices.
