Purple Star colleges help military students
Beginning July 1, 2026, Maryland creates the Purple Star Colleges Program. The Higher Education Commission runs it and sets rules after consulting the Maryland College Collaboration for Student Veterans Commission. Colleges and private career schools can apply, and get the label if they meet the standards. A Purple Star College must name a uniformed services liaison and keep an easy‑to‑find resource webpage on moving, enrollment, records, academic planning, and counseling. It must keep a transition program (student‑led when appropriate) and train staff on transfer issues. A college may partner with its governing body to meet the criteria. The label helps service members, veterans, and their spouses or dependents find strong campus support.
