No standing in dangerous St. Mary's County roads

Starting October 1, 2026, St. Mary's County bans standing in any roadway, shoulder, median, or intersection that local officials label "inherently dangerous." "Inherently dangerous" means a serious risk of injury that normal care cannot reduce. The county or a town decides these spots in consultation with the State Highway Administration (SHA). Police can ticket only if warning signs are posted and the signs meet SHA’s traffic‑control manual. On state highways, signs can go up only with SHA approval.
