Grants to grow family child care

Beginning July 1, 2026, Maryland creates the Growing Family Child Care Opportunities Program. The Department of Education runs it with the Maryland Child Care Resource Network. The Department must award at least three grants, up to $150,000 each, by September 1. To get a grant, a county or counties must sign an agreement with a child care resource center, and they apply and run the program together. The Governor must budget $450,000 in fiscal years 2023, 2024, 2026, and 2028–2030; federal funds can count if allowed. If start-up funds arrive before July 1, 2026, the Department starts awarding grants as soon as possible.
