Dorchester jail officers join correctional retirement

If Dorchester County joins the Correctional Officers’ Retirement System, covered jail officers must join it. Covered means you were a Dorchester local detention officer before and through June 1, 2026. Beginning June 1, 2026, your past county service counts toward CORRS service. When you join CORRS and get this credit, you leave the Employees’ Pension System and give up future EPS rights.

Rules for moving service and pension assets

If Dorchester County joins CORRS, state law sets how service and assets move on June 1, 2026. Title 37 does not control how your past EPS service is counted when you transfer under this law. Section 31-2B-05(c) governs how county retirement assets and credits move into CORRS.
