Crime to block or harm at religious sites

Beginning October 1, 2026, it is a crime to use force, threaten force, or physically block someone who is lawfully exercising religious freedom at a place of worship. The law also bans physically detaining or blocking anyone from entering or leaving a religious facility. Religious facilities include houses of worship, cemeteries, religious schools, community centers, and their grounds. Speech alone is not banned. The person in charge, their designees or agents, law enforcement, and people authorized or acting in good faith for the facility are exempt. Facilities also decide who may be on their property under their own religious rules. Penalties are up to 90 days in jail, a fine up to $1,000, or both.
