The law takes effect June 1, 2026. By July 1, 2026, the Maryland Department of Health approves a human trafficking awareness training, working with a local university and survivor-focused groups. The training is at least 1 hour, free, and easy to access for people regulated by health boards. It covers what trafficking is, trauma-informed care, signs in health settings, screening and documentation, how to report (including the National Hotline), and survivor resources.
Beginning June 1, 2026, health occupations boards must give continuing education credit for completing the Department-approved trafficking training. Boards must tell the people they regulate about training options on their websites and in regular communications. Boards must write any rules needed and adopt them by January 1, 2027. Credit counts toward license or certificate renewal when the approved program is completed.
