New grants for seniors' community spaces

The Department of Aging gives grants to nonprofits and area agencies to expand aging‑in‑place help and to host events in multigenerational “third places.” A “third place” is a community space, not a home or workplace. Grants can pay for program services like in‑home help, rides, or safety repairs, and for senior‑village costs like admin, leases, and rentals. Each year the Governor must budget at least $100,000 for these grants, and at least 20% goes to senior villages. The program starts July 1, 2026.

Grant notices and local coordination

The Department of Aging must announce grant opportunities at least 6 weeks before applications are due. After any award to a nonprofit, it must tell the local area agency on aging within 2 weeks. The Department may set rules for how to apply and how funds are paid. These rules take effect July 1, 2026.

Equal match needed for expansion grants

To get a State grant to expand an existing aging‑in‑place program, a nonprofit or area agency must show an equal match for the money requested. This rule begins July 1, 2026.
