New-home buyers get clear disclosures

Beginning October 1, 2026, home builders must post their Maryland builder registration number at each property. If building many homes in one project or subdivision, one central, visible posting is allowed. Every registered sales representative must display their registration certificate at the property where they mainly work. Builders must give each prospective buyer a written notice, in at least 12‑point bold type, saying the sales rep works for the builder and owes loyalty to the builder. The notice must be included with materials at the property and with the first agreement the buyer signs. At open houses, builders must post a clear, unobstructed sign, with letters at least one‑half inch high, that also tells buyers they have the right to get independent representation.
