Disability council becomes tax-exempt state body

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Maryland Statewide Independent Living Council is a tax-exempt public body of the State. It is an instrumentality of Maryland. The Council works with Centers for Independent Living to submit, carry out, monitor, and evaluate the State Plan for independent living. It must also meet other duties under Maryland law and the federal Rehabilitation Act to support the Plan.
