The purse for an Arabian race cannot use the thoroughbred purse account. The track or a race sponsor must pay the purse. The track pays any taxes and fees that apply to a thoroughbred race. Bets on these races follow the same takeout rules as other races.
Licensees at Laurel Park and Pimlico can run live Arabian horse races. An Arabian horse must be a purebred with a valid Arabian Jockey Club of America certificate. Only one Arabian race can run per day, and no more than three per meet. These races are added on top of the thoroughbred card and may not cut the number of thoroughbred races. Each race needs State Racing Commission approval, and the rules take effect immediately.
