Vacancy and removal rules for board

If a seat is vacant, the Governor appoints a qualified person to serve the rest of the term. The appointee serves until a successor is appointed and qualifies. The Governor may remove a member for misconduct, incompetence, or willful neglect. The member gets a copy of the charges, at least 10 days’ notice, and a public hearing in person or by counsel. If removed, the Governor files the charges and findings with the Secretary of State. These rules start June 1, 2026.

Who can serve on the board

Each member must live in Worcester County and be a voter there. Members must be of high character and recognized business capacity. Members serve four-year terms, staggered for continuity. These rules take effect June 1, 2026.

Worcester alcohol board grows to five

The law applies only in Worcester County. The Worcester County Board of License Commissioners now has five members. The Governor appoints the five, with Maryland Senate advice and consent. One current member’s term ends June 30, 2027; two end June 30, 2029. The two new seats begin July 1, 2026. The act takes effect June 1, 2026.
