New rules for Washington County salary commission

The law keeps the Washington County Salary Study Commission to review county officials’ pay. Beginning October 1, 2026, it has nine members: one each from the Democratic and Republican central committees, the Chamber of Commerce, Farm Bureau, League of Women Voters, Western Maryland Central Labor Council, Washington County Home Builders Association (replacing the Cumberland Valley Associated Builders and Contractors), and the Joint Veterans Council, plus one at‑large resident chosen by the County Commissioners. Each member must be a registered Washington County voter who voted in at least two elections in the past four years, including one in a gubernatorial year. Every fourth year by March 31, County Commissioners request nominees; groups reply by May 15; commissioners must appoint those nominees. If a group misses June 1, current members choose a qualified substitute public member to serve through December 1. Members may not be elected officials or employees of officials whose pay is under review.
