Montgomery schools must report and boost local food buying

This law applies only in Montgomery County and takes effect July 1, 2026. Montgomery County Public Schools must identify how many dollars for school meals in 2026–2027 came from certified local farms and certified Chesapeake invasive species providers. The school system must post those dollar amounts on its website by September 1, 2027. Using that baseline, it must set dollar increase targets for 2028–2029, 2030–2031, 2031–2032, 2033–2034, and 2036–2037. The plan to meet the targets must be made with the Office of Food Systems Resilience and public input. These steps are designed to raise school purchases from certified local farms and certified Chesapeake invasive species providers.
