Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

Ban on sexualized massage ads and signs

Beginning October 1, 2026, ads for massage services may not state or imply prostitution, escort, or sexual services. Ads also may not run on websites known for those services. The ban covers licensees, registrants, and third-party advertisers. Each day an illegal online ad is visible counts as a separate violation. Failing to remove a violating physical sign or billboard is also a violation. If a violating sign is in public view on October 1, 2026, it must be removed by May 1, 2027.

New ad rules for massage therapists

Beginning October 1, 2026, the Maryland Board sets rules on massage advertising and solicitation. The rules cover licensed therapists, registered practitioners, and third parties. Ads that list a therapist’s name must match the name on that person’s license or registration. The Board’s rules define banned language, allow trade names only when not misleading, and set how anyone can report a violation. Reminder letters to patients about periodic appointment times are not advertising. Violations can lead to discipline, including denial, probation, suspension, or revocation.
