Allegany officers leave Employees’ Pension System

Beginning June 1, 2026, once you join the correctional officers’ retirement system and get your service credit, you stop being a member of the Employees’ Pension System. You have no further rights to any Employees’ Pension System benefits. The usual service‑credit transfer rules do not apply; special correctional‑plan rules and asset‑transfer rules apply when the county joins.

Allegany detention officers join correctional pension

Beginning June 1, 2026, if Allegany County joins the state correctional officers’ retirement system, local detention officers who were in the job before that date and still in it must enroll. Your past county service counts toward eligibility and credited service in the correctional plan. This rule applies even if other laws say otherwise.
