Mammography fines capped at $1,000

Beginning October 1, 2026, the most a facility can be fined is $1,000 per violation of the staff qualification, accreditation, and federal mammography certificate rules. This cap applies even if other laws set higher amounts.

Mammogram patients get artery calcification notice

Beginning October 1, 2026, your mammogram results letter includes a note about breast arterial calcification, when federal rules allow it. If present, the letter says this finding is common but may mean higher heart disease risk. It tells you to talk with your doctor about risks and any follow-up tests, and notes your doctor got the report. The health department may update the wording as science changes. The rule covers Maryland hospitals, clinics, labs, and radiology offices, but not VA facilities, and it does not create a new medical standard of care.
