Ranked-choice counting rules online

Beginning June 1, 2026, any city that uses ranked‑choice voting must send its rules for counting those ballots to the State Board. The State Board posts the tabulation rules on its website after it gets them.

State posts municipal election info

Beginning June 1, 2026, municipalities must send election details to the State Board. For regular elections, send the rules to be a candidate for every office at least 3 months before the filing deadline. If a special election is set, send the date, the offices on the ballot, and candidate qualifications within 10 business days. Within 10 business days after the candidate filing deadline, send a list of qualified candidates for each office, party affiliation if partisan, and how and where to vote. The State Board posts all of this on its website right after it is submitted.

State posts municipal election results

Beginning June 1, 2026, the State Board posts municipal election results online as soon as cities submit them. Results are organized by election year and municipality. Within 30 days after results are certified, cities must send an electronic copy that shows votes by method: early in‑person, mail‑in, provisional, and election day. If races are partisan, the file must include each candidate’s party.
